Innovation in E-Waste Recycling

Sims Recycling Solutions assures secure product destruction through our extensive metals and electronic recycling capabilities. Nonfunctioning equipment is processed via demanufacturing and/or shredding to maximize raw material extraction.

Printer Recycling

Printer recycling represents another difficult e-waste industry problem. Printers contain a high percentage of plastics and steel, neither of which offer significant commodity value. Coupled with toner disposal issues, and the associated health risks, few recyclers choose to invest in a printer recycling line. Our recycling facility is outfitted with innovative equipment to responsibly tackle the challenges presented by printer recycling.

Toner Cartridge Recycling

Since 2006, Sims has operated a toner cartridge line in Europe to recycle used toner cartridges. 3,500 tons of used toner cartridges per year can be processed through this line. Residual toner powder is highly explosive, creating a unique challenge when recycling. An inert atmosphere is maintained to recycle these products responsibly and safely. Our unique process has been ATEX certified.

Plastic Recycling

Several of our plants are spearheading and implementing best-in-class plastic separation technology, which is important for all electronic recycling, but particularly important when recycling printers. Because electronics are manufactured from multiple types of plastic efficiently separating these plastics from other commodity streams is essential to producing clean, recyclable material that increases reuse opportunities.

Our decision to develop innovative solutions to responsibly recycle even the most challenging electronic waste products gives clients confidence that all areas of our business are responsibly managed.
