Consumer E-Waste

The Growing Problem of E-Waste

As consumers continue to “digitize” their lives, they are purchasing and discarding larger volumes of electronics. This results in a growing waste stream of broken, obsolete and unwanted electronic equipment, more commonly referred to as WEEE or e-waste. Discarded e-waste can be challenging to recycle because electronic products are complex devices manufactured from varying proportions of glass, metals and plastics.

SLS has been at the forefront of transforming the electronics recycling industry into a growing success story. We have led the industry in building a recycling infrastructure to support a sustainable ecosystem of product use, planned end-of-life disposal, and a systematic recycling process that extracts maximum value from discarded equipment, while creating green jobs.

WEEE Recycling for Individual Consumers

Consumers can recycle computers, peripherals and televisions at an EPSA collection point and be assured devices will be recycled safely, efficiently and to the highest environmental standards.

Electronic Product Stewardship Australasia (EPSA) is an approved Co-Regulatory Arrangement under the Australian Government Product Stewardship Act and is wholly owned by Sims E-Recycling Pty Ltd, trading as Sims Lifecycle Services (SLS). EPSA was developed in 2013 in response to the Australian Government’s National Television and Computer Recycling Scheme.

e-Waste legislation in the United States is on a state-by-state basis.  SLS offers e-waste collection for consumers in the states listed below. For other states, contact your local city or county solid waste department for an e-waste recycling facility near you.

SLS is a WEEE recycling company and works with many local governments to help meet WEEE directive requirements. Consumers should contact their local municipality for information on recycling electronics and obsolete computers and computer equipment.

SLS recycles most WEEE material safely and in an environmentally responsible manner. A formal recycler, like SLS, is efficient, safe and diverts e-waste from being sent to landfill and avoids water and soil contamination. Consumers can drop off their old electronics and computers at one of our SLS facilities in Delhi or Bangalore.
